Off to a flying start

Worcester ‘A’ team got the Nuneaton and District League, Round 1, off to a flying start in what was an exciting night of swimming.  Worcester ‘A’ and City of Coventry battled it out for top spot throughout the night. Only in the last few races did City of Coventry manage to edge ahead to clinch top spot, by only 8pts. Despite a narrow second place finish, Worcester ‘A’ certainly look set to have a great tournament.

In the under 9 group, there was first place finishes for Dan Thomas – 25m breastroke (25.06); Jess Day – 25m butterfly (20.31); Henry Hawes – 25m butterfly (21.24); Flora Middleton – 25m backstroke (22.38); Harry Chandler – 25m backstroke (19.40). Second place went to Ben Gooch – 25m freestyle (18.94).  Third place went to Maddison Lavoipiere – 25m breaststroke (25.81) and in what proved to be a very close race, Eve Hind took fifth place – 25m free style (20.56).

In the medley relay the under 9 boys took first place (1.26.38), while the girls took third place (1.29.19). In the freestyle relay the girls went one better, with a second-place finish (1.18.00), while the boys maintained their top spot, finishing first (1.13.60).

In the under 10 group, there were second-place finishes for Amelie Forsyth-Ball – 50m freestyle (34.44); Harry Chandler – 50m freestyle (34.13); Milly Hemming – 50m backstroke (41.81).  Third places went to Frankie Reed – 50m breaststroke (47.75); William Thomas – 50m backstroke (43.88); Henry Hawes – 25m butterfly (21.50). Fourth place went to Libby Gooden-Morris – 25m butterfly (19.62).

In the medley relay the under 10 girls finished in second place (1.17.25), while the boys took third spot (1.25.00). In the freestyle relay the girls finished sixth (1.12.88), while boys finished third (1.13.50).

In the under 11 group, there were second places finishes for Issy Wilkinson – 50m backstroke (37.82); David Annis – 50m butterfly (35.63); Michael Agoston – 50m breaststroke (44.75).  Third place went to Maisie Lyons – 50m breaststroke (43.38); while Michael Agoston took fourth place 50m freestyle (36.44). Sixth place went to Jess Dobson – 50m butterfly (39.37) and Emma McKay – 50m freestyle (34.62).

In the medley relay the under 11 boys finished in first place (1.12.90), while the girls took second spot (1.08.80). In the freestyle relay the girls again in second place (1.00.80), while boys took fourth place (1.01.80).

In the under 12 group, there were first place finishes for Lauren Annis – 50m backstroke (33.94); Henry Halford – 50m breaststroke (39.62).  Second places went to Adam Rutter – 50m butterfly (33.56); Lauren Annis – 50m breaststroke (39.19). Third place went to Lydia Cooper – 50m freestyle (32.25); Milo Reed – 50m freestyle (32.94).  While Sam Hawes – 50m backstroke (38.81) took forth and Amelia Gearey – 50m butterfly (35.81) had to settle for sixth (losing two places by just a few hundredths of a second).

In the medley relay the under 12 boys finished in first place (1.08. 9), while the girls took third spot (1.10.50). In the freestyle relay the girls finished fifth (1.04.75), while boys took third place (1.07.81).

In the length relay (two children from each age group), boys where the top team finishing in first place (2.12.60); while the girls battled hard to take third spot (2.13.10).  In the 8-length relay, the team proved too strong for the competition, taking first place (2.07.20)
