Worcester Swimming Club rounded off 2022 in brilliant style by claiming an excellent 4th place finish in the National League, sponsored by Arena.

Competing in the West Midlands Final (premier division), the swimmers excelled themselves against the very best in the Region.

The final points were Coventry 182, Leamington 168, Solihull 167, Worcester 132, Chase 118 and Boldmere 116

Such was the standard of competition that only Ben Gooch (15 & under 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle) and Sam Hall (Open 100m Freestyle) managed a first-place finish, both showcasing their talents in superb style.

There were a handful of very impressive 2nd place finishes too… notably from star swimmers Harvey Lloyd (Open 100m Breaststroke) and Dylan Lewis (13/u 100m Backstroke)… whilst Dylan also teamed up with Holly Hunt, Tarek Bluck and Elodie Vincent for an invaluable 2nd in the 13/u 4x50m Medley Relay.

Without exception, though, every swimmer performed superbly, many producing Personal Best times and grabbing an extra point for the Club by getting the better of their rivals in close finishes…none more so than Asha Mahanta and Grace Earp who did a lot of the “heavy lifting” for the team, swimming successfully both in their own 15/u age group and in the girls’ Open events too,

In so many ways, therefore, it was a typical Worcester team performance…united and determined, every swimmer fighting for every place…and a truly first-class team spirit on show throughout

The full 28-strong team was Freya Halsey, Xanthe Carrington-Abraham, Hana Duncan, Holly Hunt, Martha Colville, Elodie Vincent, Asha Mahanta, Grace Earp, Frankie Barry, Emma McKay, Emily Clacher, Carmen West, Emily West, Becky Redfern, Oliver Ginger, Harry Hunt, James Hill, Dylan Lewis, Tarek Bluck, Toby Pugh, William Pridden, William Thomas, Henry Hoare, Ben Gooch, Sam Hall, Harvey Lloyd, William Gearey and Louis Doyle… each and every one of them can be immensely proud of their achievements
