Worcester Autumn Open Meet 2021
Worcester Swimming Club welcomed swimmers from across the West Midlands to its twenty third annual Autumn Open Meet at Perdiswell leisure centre on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd October, and as always it proved a huge success.
Whilst numbers were kept a little lower than usual this year to minimise COVID risks as much as possible, 260 swimmers still took part – 147 from Worcester! – in over 1500 individual swims, with some sparkling early season performances on show.
The top swimmer awards went to two brilliant 12-year olds – Elizabeth Annis from Pershore and Finley Ferguson from Ledbury – who consistently put in one superb performance after another to win the coveted prizes whilst Pershore were comfortably and very deservedly crowned the top visiting club.
After a lengthy period without competition, for many swimmers 18 months, it was so good for them to be racing again and undeniably everyone had a terrific weekend. However, none of this would have been possible without a small army of volunteers. Huge thanks go to the Freedom staff and all the visiting technical officials but especially to the amazing Worcester mums and dads who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the meet such a great success again.
