It’s going to be a very busy few weeks with 16 Worcester swimmers competing at major National Championships this summer…

Kicking things off will be the 7-day British Championships in Sheffield from 19th to 25th July where a record 11 swimmers from Worcester will compete against the best of the best…top 24 in GB!

  • Asha Mahanta – 17-year 200m Backstroke (23/7), 50m Butterfly (23/7) & 100m Butterfly (25/7)
  • Bella Hoare – 18-year 1500m Freestyle (19/7) & 400m Individual Medley (24/7)
  • Grace Earp – 18-year 50m Breaststroke (20/7), 100m Breaststroke (21/7) & 200m Breaststroke (25/7)
  • Lexi Agoston – 15-year 50m Breaststroke (20/7), 100m Breaststroke (21/7) & 200m Breaststroke (25/7)
  • Ben Gooch – 18-year 100m Freestyle (22/7), 100m Butterfly (23/7), 50m Freestyle (24/7) & 50m Butterfly (25/7)
  • Harry Chandler – 17-year 200 Freestyle (20/7), 200m Butterfly (21/7), 100m Freestyle (22/7), 100m Butterfly (23/7), 50m Freestyle (24/7), 400m Freestyle (25/7) & 50m Butterfly (25/7)
  • Joe Agoston – 15-year 200m Individual Medley (24/7)
  • Lewis Hickman – 18-year 200m Breaststroke (23/7)
  • Tarek Bluck – 15-year 200 Freestyle (20/7), 100m Freestyle (22/7), 100m Butterfly (23/7), 50m Freestyle (24/7), 400m Freestyle (25/7) & 50m Butterfly (25/7)
  • Becky Redfern – Para multi-class 100m Breaststroke (25/7)
  • Matt Redfern – Para multi-class 100m Freestyle (22/7) & 50m Freestyle (24/7)

Plus not forgetting our amazing 17+ 4x100m Medley Relay Team of Asha Mahanta, Grace Earp, Bella Hoare and Brecon Westwood competing in the last Heats session on the final day!

Next up will be Lincoln Lewitzkyi, Matt James, Harry Chandler & Jasmine Kilmartin competing in the Open Water events, a huge Worcester “whoosh” to them as they tackle 5K or 7.5K on Saturday 26th July

Attention will then turn back to the pool in Sheffield for Swim England summer nationals running from 29th July to 3rd August where a few of the British qualifiers will be racing some additional/different events and we will have a further 3 fresh athletes eager to make their mark at Home Nations level

  • Grace Ryder and Brecon Westwood – fantastic team-mates both competing in 17-year 100m Breaststroke (30/7) & 50m Breaststroke (2/8)
  • Ellie Graham – S.15 100m Breaststroke (30/7), 50m Freestyle (31/7) & 50m Breaststroke (2/8)
  • Asha Mahanta – 100m Backstroke (1/8)
  • Bella Hoare – 800m Freestyle (31/7) & 200m Individual Medley (2/8)
  • Jasmine Kilmartin – 1500 Free (2/8)
  • Lexi Agoston – 200m Individual Medley (2/8)
  • Ben Gooch – 50 Back (29/7)
  • Joe Agoston – 100m Freestyle (31/7), 200m Breaststroke (1/8), 50m Freestyle (2/8) & 200m Freestyle (3/8)
  • Lewis Hickman – 100m Breaststroke (31/7)

Then finally wrapping up the summer championships, the Welsh summer meet will be held at Swansea on 30th July to 3rd August where Xanthe Carrington-Abraham (50m Butterfly & 100m Freestyle) will be proudly waving the Blue and Green flag!

All of these swimmers have done brilliantly simply to qualify for these Championships – achievements of which they and their families should be hugely proud, and reward for all their hard work and dedication.  However, I know they will all be aiming to showcase their talents in style so I’m sure I speak for everyone at Worcester Swimming Club when I wish them all the very best of luck!!!
